This video sets to identify some pros and cons of Media Censorship locally and internationally. Do watch the clip and feel free to post your feedback.......
I agree. The media has to be sensitive when it comes to sharing detailed information to the public. My younger sibling was overcome with anxiety with last Friday's newscast regarding the homeless man's body lying in the road after being knocked down. News can be real but it does not have to be gruesome to be sold.
So true to the above comment,,,but sometimes we have to think about whether or not what the media post, if that is what is being sold because that is what the public wants to see....
Well Candy Cane as said in the documentary, media censors certain programs to protect the kids, cause there are many surveys that were conducted internationally, that proved violence in music and television had a negative impact on the behavioral pattern on teenagers. Your point was taken though because we suppose to live a world where freedom of thought and expression is free to express. There is going to be a 45 secs clip posted tomorrow, media censored or not..you tell me..Thanks
I totally agree because for instant i was taken back by watching Ian Alleyne yesterday and he showed the dead beaten corpse of litte Ethan and the bullet riddle body known Soca artiste 'Blazer Dan' i found it so diturbing they should have cencored that because it has litte children veiwing. But to stick to the topic at hand i find the local news don't show much about what is happening in Trinidad today take Piracy for example it is fluent in the streets of P.O.S and nobody is taking or making an effort to BAN this act!!!
I disagree totally with the idea of media censorship. If we accept that the main job of the media is to inform, then....by extension, I also have the right to know. Therefore it follows that any attempt to censor the media in the country is also an attempt to stifle what information I have access to as a responsible adult who is required to make "informed choices/decisions". Frankly, if the subject matter does not agree with me, or vice versa, I either turn the page or change the channel...as is my right. BUT...if I am interested in the subject matter, then I believe that I have the legal right to be informed, and the media is doing it's job.
I am in favour for media censorship.Presently ,some of the journalist have forgotten what is true journalisim.Their aim is show who can produce the best story. The feelings of the person on the other side have no value to them.James P Madera always speak of them and how the cover a story.I really wish they can step up.The young minds are already being fed alot negativity, remember our elders are also tuned in. roden45.
I think people failed to realise that the media is a reflection of society. They say the media sensationalizes crime but if there were 10 murders overnight and one of them your neighbour, would you prefer to not be told? I don't beleive in media censorship, the public needs to wake up and smell the reality of life! Enough sugar coating and lets shock the country into a first world country.
Media Censorship has always been a sensitive issue but as Journalists, Reporters etc...what we have to realize is that we have to and need to highlight issues that are affecting whomever in society...With that said, if it means that a graphic photograph is going to be too emotional for some to view then it is our responsibility to issue a warning before it is shown...This should be done at the beginning of the Newscast every single night...On the other hand, saying to Journalists that they have to be sensitive when reporting is o.k. but there are times when the brutal truth needs to be told or in some cases shown even if it means offending a few or many...what Journalists must never forget though is that the truth must be told whether they are censored or not...
To anonymous on Oct 26th 5:01pm the media is to inform YES, but also to be OBJECTIVE, and ETHICAL. @ Anonymous Oct 27th 11:01 I like the idea of what you said HAVE A WARNING ISSUE BEFORE IT SHOWS. So true.
